Health
Health is not only essential for survival but also a fundamental condition for happiness. Without good health, it is difficult to enjoy a comfortable life, regardless of favorable circumstances. Good health includes having the ability to participate actively in society, adapt to different environments, and live without constant concern for one’s survival.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” This definition emphasizes that health is more than simply being free from illness.
The concept of health has changed over time. In the past, health was viewed mainly in terms of physical strength. Later, the importance of the balance between the body and mind became widely recognized. Today, health is understood as the ability to carry out daily activities—such as working, exercising, eating, resting, and sleeping—without significant discomfort or limitations. Modern perspectives also recognize the importance of overall well-being, including physical, mental, social, and, in some contexts, spiritual aspects of life.
